4-Alarm Fire Rips Through Bloomfield's Downtown

A four-alarm fire tore through a commercial building in Bloomfield Tuesday morning.

The blaze broke out at 55 Washington St. -- which is listed online as a Heavenly Bites Hot Dogs -- although authorities did not immediately know the cause or exact location of the fire.

Local tenants said the fire started in the basement of the building and impacted a nearby florist and barber shop.

The cause was not immediately known and no injuries were reported, police said.

Companies from Newark, Montclair, Clifton, Belleville, Nutley, East Orange, West Orange, West Caldwell, Caldwell, and Irvington responded to assist the Bloomfield Fire Department.

Firefighters remained at the scene as of 11 a.m.
